Superintendent Lisa James

Lisa James begins her first year as Carroll County Schools Superintendent. For the past five years, James has served the
district as Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment.


She began her career at Carroll County Middle School as a mathematics teacher in January 1987 after completing her bachelor’s degree in elementary education at Eastern Kentucky University in 1986 and her master’s degree in elementary education from Georgetown College in 1989.


After teaching for 10 years, James became the Carroll County Middle School Instructional Coach and also began working on her Rank I in Instructional Leadership at the University of Louisville.


After completing her Rank I and earning her principal’s certificate in 1999, she served as principal of Milton Elementary in Trimble County from 1999-2003.


While serving as Carroll County Schools Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment, James earned her superintendent’s certification from University of Louisville in 2004.

 

James, a 1976 graduate of Switzerland County High School in Indiana, attended Purdue University right out of high school before she married local attorney Ed James and started a family.  They have two daughters, Larisa and Laurie Lea.


James said in an address to the Carroll County Board of Education, when they announced her hiring, that her mission is simple: “Being a Champion for the Kids in Carroll County.”
