Carrollton, Ky. – March 31, 2022 - Roger Harden was the 1982 Indiana Mr. Basketball, a Parade All-American, a McDonalds All-American, a Scholastic Coach All-American, a 1985-86 Third-Team All-SEC player, and a 1986 NBA draft pick for the Los Angeles Lakers. Recently, he finished a five-year stay as the head boys basketball coach at Williamstown High School. Now, he is a Carroll County Panther.

“We are beyond excited to have Coach Harden joining us,” said Beau Arney, Carroll County School District athletic director. “In addition to his incredible career as a basketball player, which includes playing point guard at the University of Kentucky, Coach Harden turned Williamstown into a force to be reckoned with during his five years there. We are very lucky to have him, and I am excited about the future of our program here.”

During his time at the University of Kentucky, Harden was a four-year letterman and served as team captain. The team played in the NCAA tournament, which included Sweet 16, Elite 8, and Final 4 appearances. He also set the All-Time Single Season Assist Record, which held until 2010.

As a coach at Williamstown, Harden was named the 2017 NCKC Coach of the Year and the 2017 8th Region Coach of the Year. The Williamstown Demons posted winning seasons against tough opponents and won several games against strong rivals.

“I can’t wait to meet the players at Carroll County High School,” Harden said. “Basketball has been good to me. It’s a great game that taught me a lot about myself and a lot about life. I want to thank Dr. Brown, Mr. Arney and everyone on the hiring committee for giving me this chance. It was a first-class process, and I am grateful to the school and the community for giving me the opportunity to coach these young men.”

Harden begins coaching the Panthers later this spring.

“Coach Harden is a true team player, and he is all about creating a positive culture,” said Natalie Brown, Ed.D., principal of Carroll County High School. “There are so many great things happening at the high school, and we are thrilled to have Coach Harden join us in making our school the best it can be.”
