A message from Superintendent Osborne

Dear Fellow Citizens of Carroll County:

I am beyond saddened for the hardship that closing our schools has caused to our families and to our community. Nothing that I say can take that hardship away, and I promise that we will return to school as soon as we safely can.

The teachers, administrators, and support staff of our school district are all educators, and we entered this profession in large part because we love seeing our students each day. With our NTI process in place, we have shifted instruction online and remote, but we all know that nothing can replace a good day of school.

Nonetheless, we, along with everyone in our community, are making the best of the current situation. I am confident that we are going to emerge on the other side of this a better school district, and a better community.

I want to take a moment to recognize some special members of our school family who have made us proud throughout this COVID-19 situation.

— Our school nurses were our frontline defense leading up to our closure. They are true professionals and were a whirlwind of activity, reinforcing the importance of cleanliness to all of our students. Our school nurses have always been there for our students, and that was more apparent than ever in recent weeks.

— School custodians have been cleaning our schools at a time when the job has never been more important. I am proud of their diligence and their professionalism, and I thank them for their service. If you know someone who is a custodian, take a moment to thank them for what they do for us each day.

— Food service workers and bus drivers have ensured that our students are still able to receive meals. Many of our students rely on school breakfast and lunch, and our drivers and food service workers have gone above and beyond to keep our students fed. In the school community there is a running joke about the “Other duties as assigned” clause of our contracts. These folks have been carrying out their “Other duties as assigned” with a smile.

In truth, I am proud of our entire school team: our teachers, office staff, administrators, maintenance workers, technology staff and more. Recent days have been a blur for all of us, but one thing stands out to me: our school district and our community are filled with people who care about kids. That makes me proud.

Now more than ever, we see what is really important. I am thankful for our school district and thankful for Carroll County. I can’t wait for us to get back to school.

Sincerely,

Danny Osborne
