Carrollton, Ky. – June 23, 2022 – After years of success as a club and middle school soccer coach, Mark Smith will lead the Carroll County High School soccer program this year. Smith has coached at the club level with Shelby Xtreme, leading teams to Kentucky Select Soccer League championships and with River Valley Futbol Club, leading teams to League Championships and winning State Cups with 14u teams in 2019, 2020, and 2021. At the school level, Smith coached the Carroll County Middle School soccer team for four years, compiling a record of 26-4-2, including back-to-back undefeated seasons and back-to-back conference championships.
“Mark Smith is an incredible soccer coach who has flown under the radar for years now,” said Beau Arney, Carroll County School District athletic director. “I’m glad we have been able to snag him and to put him in charge of what we think is going to be a flagship soccer program in the state.”
Smith holds a US Soccer E Coaching license and is a current candidate for D License. He has won numerous coaching awards, including KY Rec Coach-of-the-Year in 2020.
With Summer Young and Harry Hatton, Smith formed the River Valley Futbol Club in 2015, giving Carroll County and surrounding county youth a club team and the ability to compete regionally and in statewide competition. He is also involved in coaching associations and has a network of club and college coaching relationships, which has resulted in players achieving soccer scholarships.
“I love soccer, and I love sharing the game with young players,” Smith said. “We are building a great soccer tradition here in Carroll County, and I am honored to have been chosen to coach at the high school level.”
