Student volunteers operate the food pantry at Carroll County High School. Kameron Melton is the lead volunteer and is working to train underclassmen to take over next year. The pantry is in need of snack foods, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese cups, granola bars and other single serve items. Donations can be made at the high school by contacting Kameron or Assistant Principal Crystal Harris.

The CCHS track team competed in its first indoor meet over the weekend at Mason County. This year, the Kentucky High School Athletic Association has officially sanctioned an indoor state meet on the first Saturday in March. It’s traditionally known as the Mason Dixon games. In order to qualify for indoor state you have to be ranked in the top 24 in your event based off of a qualifying time/distance from a sanctioned indoor meet, according to CCHS Track Coach Joseph Creager. Their results were: Boys 800M - Asriel Aguazul Mendoza (2:54.09), Elias Cardoso (3:14.68), Jonathan Pirtle (3:38.52) Boys 1600M Taylor Harsin (5:45.36) and Aiden Lilley (6:22.47). Taylor placed 19th. Boys Shot Put - Jack Bolton (25-03.75) Boys 4x400 meter relay - Teague Walls, Aiden Lilley, Alex Bolton, Taylor Harsin (4:33.93). The team placed ninth. Boys 55 meter dash - Asriel Aguazul Mendoza (8.12) Girls 55 meter dash - Adree Dermon (8.70) and Angel Harney (10.63). Adree Dermon finished first in her heat. Girls 400 meter - Adree Dermon (1:24.12), Ava Webb (1:33.47), and Angel Harney (1:41.36) Boys 400 meter - Teague Walls (1:03.99), Alex Bolton (1:17.54) and Zander Webb (1:18.60).

The Carroll County Young Leaders Institute toured the Carroll County Memorial Hospital last week. Students visited the emergency room, surgical area, lab and other areas of the hospital. The group consists of juniors and seniors who are taught leadership skills. The two groups have visited local governments, industries and the seniors will take a trip to the state Capitol to visit with senators and representatives. The Senior Young Leaders are Ayden Taylor, Cameron Butcher, Gage Stone, Grayson Kinman, Heidi Lopez, Jacob Spenneberg, Jaden Lark, Johnny Scherder, Keagan Hatton, Neil Abbott, Rileigh Darnold, Ruby Atilano Zarate, Seth Franklin and Treyton Stucker. The Junior Young Leaders are Blayden Booker, Brenna Mefford, Caitlyn Satchwell, Cheyanne Allen, Elle Spencer, Erik Onofre-Mejia, Kimberly Ramirez, Kylee Kinman, Madisen Groves, Savannah Wright and Taylor Butler.

Kameron Melton, a student at CCHS and Carroll County ATC, was recognized for his operation of the CCHS food pantry as well as making Kentucky-shaped cutting boards to give to the board of education members. His workmanship, completed in the ATC Carpentry class, was given as part of School Board Appreciation Month. Superintendent Casey Jaynes praised the board members for their commitment to Carroll County Schools.
