CCHS students participated in board games during intramurals last week. Magali McCarty's enrichment students created an original card game, including the concept, rules, artwork, prototypes and a play testing event as part of their science and social studies enrichment.
September is Attendance Awareness Month. Consistent attendance at school is critical to student success. Let's all do our part to ensure our students are successful.
This week students had an opportunity to use a heavy equipment simulator. Students were able to operate an articulated dump truck, compact track loader, excavator, forklift, and an overhead crane.

The Carrollton McDonald's is offering a portion of its sales on Sept. 26 to benefit CCHS athletics.
Last year we realized students in the performance-based cohort needed more help planning and proposing their projects. To improve those skills, this year we started with a paper airplane project. Students were required to plan a design for a paper airplane to see what variables needed to be adjusted to help the plane fly as far as possible.
After planning and briefly testing these designs, students were required to create a presentation explaining why they thought their design would be the best. Once approved, students had to fill out a sample purchase order for their materials to simulate the purchasing process they would use for their larger projects.
Students enjoyed being able to test their designs in the hallway and had trying to revise their designs to have the best plane. Students have done a great job engaging in the process and are learning key project skills that will help them throughout the rest of the year.

Superintendent Casey Jaynes has prepared this statement to answer questions about the decision to close school and cancel Friday night's football game.
Spanish 2 students of Magali McCarty wrapped up an engaging unit that taught them about a unique tradition in Tarragona, Spain. The month of August in Tarragona is marked by an exciting competition where "castillers," or human tower builders, come together to form impressive, human multi-story structures in a display of teamwork and community spirit.
In a bid to introduce students to this unique aspect of Spanish culture while reinforcing their language skills, McCarty designed a series of classroom activities centered around the tradition of building human towers. The students delved into the cultural significance of the competition through reading, listening, and writing exercises, all conducted in Spanish.
The classroom activity culminated in a hands-on project where students constructed their own towers with cups. The challenge was to build the tallest and most stable tower within a set time limit. The towers were judged on their height and stability, with the requirement that each structure must stand independently to be counted.
The excitement in McCarty’s sixth period was heightened as two teams went head-to-head in a cup-building finale. The top team in each class received chocolate bars of their choice, while the overall winners were treated to king-size bars. The competition was so close that even runner-up chocolate bars were awarded to the team that narrowly missed winning overall.
McCarty said this activity not only helped reinforce Spanish vocabulary and language skills, but also gave students a unique glimpse into a lively Spanish tradition.
The overall winner, which also won in sixth period, was the team of Michaela Freeman, Ethan Crawfod and Nik Brown. The runner-up was Kaitlynn Bowling and Ashley Gomez-Mejia. The winner in the second period class was Kyan Johnson, Lucas Taylor, Rylan Kinman and Lincoln Miller.
The football game scheduled for Friday, August 30 has been cancelled due to illness and injury.
Carroll County students who attend iLEAD Academy will not attend classes in person on Aug. 29-30. They will log into their Thursday and Friday classes via Google Meet. Teachers will post the links in their classrooms ahead of time. Any CCHS student attending JCTC will need to provide their own transportation on Thursday and Friday.

The open house featuring a new heavy equipment simulator for the CATALYST program has been postponed. The new date will be announced soon.
Attention Panther families, JCTC classes will be in session even though Carroll County Schools will be closed Aug. 29-30. The school district will not be providing transportation. Carroll County Schools are also closed for the Labor Day holiday on Monday, Sept. 2.
Attention Panther families,
We will be closing school tomorrow and Friday, Aug. 29-30, due to illness among our staff and students. We certainly appreciate everyone's efforts in trying to keep our system up and running smoothly, but we have come to the point that it is not sustainable for everyone's health and safety.
On a side note, we will continue with athletic events as we will not be able to reschedule these during the current season. Athletes should have limited access to inside areas such as locker rooms and the gym.
Please take this opportunity over this long weekend to get well and rested.
