The 2024-2025 school year is just around the corner in Carroll County and a confident energy is sweeping through the district, setting the stage for an inspiring start. ā€œI’m excited. I think we’re going to have an awesome year,ā€ Carroll County Schools Superintendent Casey Jaynes said to staff during a professional development session today. Now entering his third year as Panther, Jaynes noted a marked shift in the district’s atmosphere compared to when he first assumed the role. ā€œThings are moving in the right direction and that is a tribute to the work you’re doing in the classrooms daily,ā€ he said to the gathering of teachers and administrators. This year, Carroll County Schools is experiencing an uptick in enrollment, a decrease in staff turnover, and a pervasive positive mindset that has taken hold at all levels. Several staff members indicated they enjoyed hearing from instructional coaches and learning about the new technology improvements coming to the district. The crew also enjoyed a fun game of Friendly Feud between the schools. ā€œI’m proud to be your superintendent and proud to work with each of you as we move our district to be a Top 10 district in the state,ā€ Jaynes said.

During a postseason reflection meeting of the 31st District athletic directors, it was agreed upon to make some important changes to the upcoming middle school baseball and softball season. The 31st district includes Carroll, Trimble, Henry, Gallatin, Owen and Eminence. Starting this season, 31st District Middle School baseball and softball will be restructured to be identified as a Freshman team, according to Carroll County High School Athletic Director Scott Anderson. It will include student athletes in seventh through ninth grades. This decision has been made for the following key reasons: 1. Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) licensed officials will be available to umpire the freshman, junior varsity and varsity games. This will enhance the quality of play and ensure a more professional and fair environment for all of our athletes. 2. In addition to the changes for seventh through ninth graders, we are pleased to offer opportunities for sixth grade students to participate in scheduled "B" team games. ā€œThis will be dependent on the availability of other teams, but we are committed to providing as many playing opportunities as possible for our younger athletes,ā€ Anderson said. This change provides more opportunities for the middle school student athletes to play than the previous design. The majority of teams we play do not have middle school baseball or softball teams, Anderson explained, so this alteration will give the younger athlete exposure to a higher level competition and allow them to play more games than in a traditional middle school schedule. ā€œWe believe these changes will not only improve the overall experience for our players, but also foster a greater love for the game. Thank you for your understanding and support as we implement these updates to our baseball and softball programs,ā€ Anderson said.

Carroll County Schools took a step forward with the installation of new dual-sided LED signs at all its schools, replacing the old and malfunctioning ones. Today, the vibrant new signs featuring the official district logo and colors were erected at Kathryn Winn Primary and Cartmell Elementary School. The middle and high schools are next in line for this upgrade, with installations happening soon. While the signs aren't electrified yet, the plan is to have them all fully operational before the start of the school year. New directional signage has also been placed on the high school campus. ā€œWe are thrilled to provide this much-needed upgrade to our schools,ā€ said Superintendent Casey Jaynes. These high-tech LED screens are capable of showcasing messages, vivid color photos, and even videos, bringing a new level of communication and engagement to the school community.
