Carroll County Schools will test its public announcement system on Wednesday, Jan. 10 at 5 p.m. Please check the parent portal for Infinite Campus to verify your telephone and email addresses are correct. It is imperative that this information remain updated so you can receive all public notifications, such as school closings for weather. All updates must be made by 10 p.m. to receive tomorrow's test message. The test announcement will send a text message, phone call, push notification on the Carroll County Schools app, notification on the district website as well as on all of our social media. Eighth grade math students of Renee Coghill and Nicole LeGrand got a taste of learning math with the aid of virtual reality last month. Prisms is the program that takes students into the “real world” to tackle an actual problem. For example, they had to aid a rooftop garden owner who wanted to use computers to automate the movement of plants based on the plants' need for sunlight. The students had to find the shortest path and write the mathematical rule that moved each plant to the best location. The students will continue the VR math program into this semester.

Thank you to all law enforcement agencies that help protect our staff and students on a daily basis. We appreciate all of you at the Carrollton Police Department, Carroll County Sheriff's Office and Kentucky State Police.

AARP of Kentucky asked fifth grade students to write an essay explaining why their grandparent should be chosen Grandparent of the Year. CCMS staff voted on the top seven and awarded first place to Caroline Simmons. Other winners include Waylon Beach, Ryann Stewart, Jaxon Routon, Ava Saggus, Aria Edmonson and Bryleigh Westrick.

The CCMS classes with the highest growth on their math i-Ready test were treated to circus games, cotton candy, a sucker and prizes. Games were run with the help of teachers, administrators and the WEB Leaders. (More photos on the district Facebook page.)

It is with great sadness that Carroll County Schools announces the death of Mr. Joseph Kindlesparger. Mr. Kindlesparger was a day custodian at Carroll County High School and had worked at Cartmell Elementary School. He experienced a medical emergency this morning and passed away. We are deeply saddened by this loss. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, and our staff and students.

The Kentucky Department of Education is seeking feedback as it searches for a new Commissioner of Education. The process should take about five minutes to complete. It is important for all communities to have a voice in the selection process. The education stakeholder survey, which also is available in Spanish, is intended for use by families, community members, business owners and others with a stake in Kentucky’s public education system.

The Three Rivers District Health Department provided emergency bags to elementary students recently. The bags include items such as a flashlight, toothbrush, toothpaste, and a magnet with emergency numbers. Thank you to our community partner for this generous donation!

Juniors! Do you want to some help with your ACT? Sign up for the Super Saturday Sessions! The Super Saturday sessions aim to help students feel more comfortable and confident tackling the ACT. These sessions allow students to work one-on-one or in small groups with content experts to help expand their understanding of English, Math, Reading, or Science. Super Saturdays also allow students to work on non-content issues like test anxiety and navigating timed tests. While priority registration is given to juniors, it is open to any student scheduled to take the ACT in the spring. Carroll County Middle School students who met reading and math achievements were recognized last month during a school assembly. Lexia Achievement - Jonathan Pirtle, Lars Switzer, Logan Deitz and Evie Reynolds Math Pathway Completion - Gregory Humphrey, Maverick Johnson and Leo Atilano Zarate. Congratulations to these students for a job well done!

Carroll County Middle School recognized its December students of the month during an assembly before leaving for the holiday break. Fifth grade - Sol Ortiz Perez and Raelynn Bates Sixth grade - Helvin Reynoso and Harley Pirtle Seventh grade - Axel Nando-Nopal and Yocelyn Sanchez Gomez Eighth grade - Emanuel Perez and Kameron Meadows Positive Office Referrals - Dawson Roden and Nikki Smith Congratulations to each of these students for a job well done!

The plaque commemorating the 2023 Carroll County High School valedictorian, Andrew Frye, was hung recently. The next time you're in the Panther gymnasium, take a look at all the young ladies and gentlemen who have achieved this honor.

CCHS Junior Brenna Mefford was recognized by the Carroll County Board of Education last month for her artistic achievements. Brenna is a talented artist whose work is prominently featured on the side of Maguana's Unique Gifts in downtown Carrollton.
